The Focus on SEND course has now come to a close and is no longer available, as we prepare for the impending changes expected to the SEND Code of Practice and take forward some exciting developments across the nasen website and our professional training and learning offer.

Changes to Focus on SEND

On 31st August 2020, the current Focus on SEND course came to a close as we prepare for the impending changes expected to the SEND Code of Practice and take forward some exciting developments across the nasen website and our professional training and learning offer.

We have complied a list of answers to some questions you might have:

Will there be a new SEND Code of Practice and if so, when?

When the Government responded to the Timpson Review on Exclusions they confirmed the intention to review the SEND Code of Practice. It was initially expected that this activity would be completed by the end of 2020. However, since that announcement the Government launched a wider reaching internal Review of SEND, which is likely to inform and amendments made to the SEND Code of Practice. Due to the COVID-19 outbreak the exact timeline has not been confirmed and we expect to hear more in the coming months.

Why will Focus on SEND no longer be available?

On 31st August 2020, the current Focus on SEND course will come to a close as we prepare for the impending changes expected to the SEND Code of Practice and take forward some exciting developments across the nasen website and our professional training and learning offer

If you have signed up to the course and have not yet completed all modules, please ensure they are submitted by the 30th August 2020 to qualify for certification. If you need any support with this, please contact webadmin@nasen.org.uk

What will nasen do with my data once Focus on SEND is switched off?

After the 31st August, we will not keep any of your Focus on SEND data. However, we will contact you prior to this and invite you to join as a bronze member of nasen (if you are not one already). That way, you will still receive our monthly e-newsletter and keep up to date with the latest nasen news, including any sector updates. You can opt out of this at any time.

If I have not completed the course by the 30th August, will I lose all my work completed to date?

Unfortunately, once the Focus on SEND training platform has been taken offline at 8:00pm on 30st August 2020 you will be unable to complete or continue the course, therefore we strongly recommend you complete your current course and download your certificate of completion by this deadline.

What other CPDL options are available to me?

There are still many CPDL opportunities and resources available to you. The resources section of the nasen website  contains a variety of resources including webcasts, information on a variety of SEND related topics, proformas and so on. Also available are the nasen miniguides  which cover topics as diverse as Acquired Brain Injury and the Graduated Approach. Do also check the Whole School SEND section of the SEND Gateway; amongst other things this contains a series of ‘condition specific videos which, as well as providing a brief overview of each condition, also provide teachers with strategies that can be used to support pupils in the classroom.

In addition to the free resources mentioned above, nasen also has comprehensive programme of webinars.

Can I download my certificate after the 30th August?

Unfortunately, you will not be able to download your certificate of completion once the course has been taken offline, therefore we encourage you to do this before 8pm on the 30th August 2020.

If you have any other questions that are not answered above please do email them to: webadmin@nasen.org.uk
