What people can expect in the webinar:
In this webinar we will introduce the CPAT attention training program, as well as explore its scientific background and research findings. You will then hear from 4 schools that have used the program with autistic children to help you think about how it might be used in your setting. You will also have the opportunity to ask questions to the speakers. 

What is CPAT?
Computerised Progressive Attention Training (CPAT) is a computer/tablet-based program that helps boost specific attention functions on a game-like platform. Research has indicated improved academic performance in autistic children using the program.


Schools and presenters:

  • Rookery (England)

Rookery is a large mainstream primary school in Birmingham (UK). The proportion of pupils from minority ethnic background is well-above average as is the number of pupils who speak English as an additional language. The school has a 14-place resource base for children with autism.

Kerry Stanley has been teaching for 12 years at Rookery School. She started as a mainstream nursery teacher for 4 years before moving to the resource base. She has worked in the resource base for 8 years as a teacher and lead of the base.

  • Weizman (Israel)

Weizmann is a mainstream primary school in Ramat Gan (Israel) which caters for children aged 6 to 14. The school has 21 classes; among them five are exclusively for students with autism who receive personal developmental-educational programs. The school promotes inclusion between mainstream pupils and pupils with special needs through various joint activities.
 
Dr Ayelet Baisa from Attention Lab at Tel Aviv University is a speech and language therapist who provides the Weizmann’s educational team ongoing guidance and advice related to the implementation of the CPAT.

  • Ralleia (Greece)

Ralleia is mainstream primary school in Piraeus (Greece). It is an experimental school which belongs to the Pedagogical Department of Primary Education of the University of Athens. The school accommodates several children with SEND including a small number of autistic pupils who are fully included. 

Zozefina Tzonaka is a primary school teacher. She has worked as a headteacher in a mainstream school as well as in settings for pupils with learning/intellectual disabilities, ADHD and autism. She has participated in several European funded projects on autism. 

Argiro Manthou is a primary school teacher with experience in autism. She has participated in European funded projects and she has special interest in technology. 

  • Autismo Ávila (Spain)

Trebol school is an autism specific provision that belongs to Autismo Ávila (Spain) and it is located inside a mainstream school. It currently has one classroom for children with autism and learning/intellectual disabilities. School staff provide individualised support by following TEACCH while the autistic pupils share activities such PE and arts with pupils from the mainstream school. 

Arturo López Fernández is a Clinical Psychologist and Neuropsychologist. Currently he is the psychologist of Autismo Ávila working on various European funded projects and reviewing and editing books related to autism. He also works as an associated lecturer at the Department of Developmental Psychology at the University of Salamanca.
