In memoriam: Dr Ron Davie 1929-2019

It is with great sadness that nasen must inform its members and followers of the passing of Dr Ron Davie, president of nasen 1992 - 1994.

Dr Ron Davie’s was the director of the National Children's Bureau 1981-1990 and then president of nasen from 1992 - 1994. Ron's achievements in the voluntary sector included the formation of nasen in 1992 when the National Association for Remidial Education (NARE) merged with the National Council for Special Educational (NCSE) to create nasen and thus became nasens first president.

As one of the pioneers of nasen, and indeed the wider sector, Ron has made a difference to the lives of many thousands of children. Throughout his tenure at nasen, Ron made significant contributions to nasens charitable objectives and activities. One of the key achievements during his presidency was drafting the response to the national consultation on the highly influential SEN Code of Practice.

Ron continued to support the work of nasen for several years beyond his presidency in various capacities with a strong focus on policy as chairman of the Policy Committee. Since beginning his teaching career in 1973, Ron dedicated over 30 years to the education and voluntary sector spending most of his working life looking to improve provision for learners with SEND.

We hope our members and followers will join us in passing our sincere condolences to Ron’s family at this difficult time.
