Cognitive load and pupils with SEND

This resource comprises a range of suggestions for using cognitive load theory to support pupils with SEND. It is suitable for teachers, learning mentors and SENCOs from Early Years settings, schools and colleges.

The resource can be used to support practitioners to understand how they can use the theory of cognitive load (See the resource ‘What do we mean by cognitive load?’) to improve provision for pupils with SEND.

Using this resource will lead to an increased understanding of how to use cognitive load theory to benefit pupils with SEND. You may also use this resource in CPDL activities in your school or setting.
