Co-produced resource to support communicating with young people with SEND released
A new resource on how best to communicate with young people with SEND has been compiled by the Council for Disabled Children and co-produced with the FLARE group, young advisors to the Department of Education. Alongside best practice for working with young people with SEND there are quotes from young people that help to illustrate the barriers they might experience and the benefits of different types of support.
The resources include ‘top tips’ for Communication, General Support and Mental Health and Wellbeing. It acknowledges that whilst the issues that have been exacerbated by the pandemic are not new, coming out of the pandemic we be the catalyst to really start to engage in meaningful co-production as it has never been more relevant or necessary.
As Amba,21, says, “By being involved in decision making, the child/young person feels in control and feel more involved, listened to and they also feel like they have had an input. This will build up their skills, knowledge, perseverance, tolerance and resilience.”
