DfE announce funding for Senior Mental Health Lead training

DfE

As part of the Government’s broader mental health programme across education, funding is being made available for up to 7,800 schools and colleges to access a grant to pay for Senior Mental Health Lead training.

The grant will be accessible between September 2021 and March 2022 and settings can select from a list of quality assured training providers. The government has committed to offer this training to all schools and colleges by 2025.

The training will focus on how a sustainable Whole School or College approach to mental health and wellbeing can be introduced or further developed across a setting. An outline of the learning outcomes for the training have been published to provide a clearer picture of what the training will cover. The training will further support settings to embed the important strategic role of Senior Mental Health Lead within their school or college. Although not mandatory it is hoped that schools will recognise the value in this role and identify a senior lead with the capacity and authority to drive change.
