New programme ‘Internships Work’ to support more students
Internships Work is a new programme funded by the Department for Education and is aimed at doubling the number of supported internships available across the country. Designed and delivered by The National Development Team for Inclusion (NDTi), British Association of Supported Employment (BASE) and DFN Project SEARCH each supporting a different facet of the programme with the aim of supporting a further 4,500 students with additional needs to access a supported internship by 2025.
The programme has distinct areas of support:
- NDTi will be supporting Local Authorities to establish and develop SEND employment forums
- BASE will be establishing a sustainable process to improve the quality of Supported Internship provision, using a Quality Assurance framework, and will also lead on delivering Job Coach & Systematic Instruction training to over 700 job coaches
- DFN Project SEARCH will engaging employers and support them to offer high quality work placements by providing information, advice and training that enable growth in internships and job opportunities
