Widgit Symbol-Supported Recipes

Widgit have always produced resources free and paid for on their website to support a variety of topics. The latest additions have been created with support from celebrity chefs Tom Kerridge and Ainsley Harriot. They have given permission for a number of their recipes to be symbol-supported and released on the Widgit website for free.

The project was initiated by Asa Hancock, a sixth-form teacher at Ganton special school in Hull. During lockdown he was struck by the lack of accessible recipes from the top chefs in the UK. After approaching the chefs’ publishers and Tom and Ainsley themselves Widgit have ensured that a range of their recipes have had symbols incorporated and layouts adjusted to make them more accessible for all.
