Twilight Talk: Inclusion and Belonging: Practice That Makes a Difference for Every Child

  • Online
  • 28 Apr 2027 (16:00 - 17:00)
Twilight Talks

In a time where children’s needs are increasingly diverse and school communities are under greater pressure, building a genuine sense of belonging is central to wellbeing, engagement and achievement. This session explores how everyday classroom practice, relational approaches and whole-school systems can either enable or inadvertently block a child’s experience of inclusion. With a focus on emotional safety, identity, representation and connection, the workshop examines how schools can cultivate environments where every child feels valued, understood and able to thrive socially, emotionally and academically.

This session will highlight:

  • The psychology of belonging and its impact on behaviour, motivation and  learning.
  • Practical approaches for embedding inclusive relational practice across the school day.
  • How curriculum, environment and language can strengthen or weaken children’s sense of identity and value.
  • Tools for noticing and identifying pupils at risk, and shaping responsive provision.
  • Strategies for working with families and wider professionals to co-create meaningful inclusion.
