Twilight Talk - Inclusion by Design: Practical PedTech Strategies for Strengthening Universal Provision, Inclusive Practice, and Pupil Agency

  • Online

Twilight Talks

Nationally, the number of pupils on SEND registers continues to rise, placing unprecedented pressure on schools, educators and local authorities. However, when educational technology transitions to a 'pedagogy-first approach', digital tools become the 'digital glue' that strengthens Universal Provision for every learner. In this twilight talk, award-winning educator Julaan Govier explores how becoming a Google Reference School, with 1:1 Chromebook devices for all, transforms classroom inclusion and pupil outcomes across the LEO Academy Trust. Drawing from real-world practice, Julaan will demonstrate how built-in accessibility features, AI-powered differentiation, and 'stealth scaffolding'—such as discrete digital resource assignment and voice typing—dismantle learned helplessness, reduce metacognitive overload, protect pupil dignity, and foster true independence and agency. Attendees will gain actionable insights on using Google Workspace for Education and digital tools to meet diverse needs within high-quality universal teaching, ensuring every single pupil thrives.
