New elearning module to accompany mandatory training for health and social care professionals

The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability (LD) and Autism has been running since 2022 since the Health and Care Act introduced a requirement that service providers ensure that staff receive training on LD and autism. The training has two separate levels appropriate for different roles within the health and social care sector; tier 1 offers a general awareness of LD and autism, tier 2 offers a more advanced training for those who provide care and support for autistic people. The training was developed as a result of the horrific experience of the McGowan family with their son Oliver within the health care system that sadly resulted in the loss of Oliver’s life.

They have recently launched the elearning component of the training that is a 90 minute programme supporting both tier 1 and 2 access. While the primary audience is health and social care workforce, this training is suitable for anyone wanting to increase their understanding and knowledge of learning disability and autism.
