Advisory group members wanted for project supporting VI learners in post-16

nasen is proud to be working on a project with funding from the Thomas Pocklington Trust titled “Accessing the Future  - improving outcomes for VI learners in post-16”. Through engagement with the sector, we will host a hub of resources and co-produce with an advisory group two webinars. The project aim is to enable practitioners to be more confident and access the best practice to support young people with vision impairment (VI) in post-16 schools, training providers and Further Education colleges.

As part of the project we are recruiting to a four-person advisory group to support the aims and delivery of the project. There are two positions for young people with VI (18 to 25 years) who are experts by experience and two positions for practitioners who have experience delivering teaching to those learners with VI across post-16 settings.

Experts by experience: An understanding of the barriers and how they were able to advocate for themselves to get the support that they needed to succeed. High levels of communication and willingness to discuss how their VI impacts learning and independence is essential. Willingness to be part of the webinar on screen is desirable. To register your interest please complete the form below. For further information please contact

Post-16 practitioners (all settings): A willingness to share their experience of advocating on behalf of learners for changes to the environment, curriculum delivery or in training staff to support learners to succeed. High levels of communication and willingness to discuss the practical approaches and processes that enabled the setting to successfully change practice to be more suitable for learners with VI is essential. Willingness to be part of the webinar is desirable. To register your interest please complete the form below. For further information please contact education@nasen.org.uk.

Deadline for application is 9th June 2023

Selection will be completed by 16th June.

We are also putting a call out for professionals, experts by experience, parent/carers, those who work closely with young people with VI to provide tools, resources and case studies of what has worked for them, their setting or an individual they have worked with to ensure that they have had a good experience of transition and ongoing support in FE. These submissions will feature on the nasen website and may be utilised in the webinars to illustrate best practice. Submissions could be written, audio or video. Please complete the consent form with your submission via the webpage here:

At the heart of this project is ensuring fair and equitable access and support for young people with VI and providing them with the opportunities that all young people should be entitled to. If you would like to discuss the programme further, or to discuss providing information in the best format possible then please email education@nasen.org.uk. We look forward to receiving your submissions.
