Experiences of Education as an Autistic person – new podcast episode

Our Turn to Talk is the National Children’s Bureau’s (NCB) Youth-led podcast programme. All episodes are developed and directed by young people and focus on topics that are important to them.

Their latest episode, ‘Experiences of Education as an Autistic Person’ was written and directed by Lauren, a member of the Young NCB Advisory Group, and features Aaron as a guest on the podcast, from a youth group organised by Lauren.

In the podcast they discuss:

  • The sensory challenges autistic young people can face at school.
  • The demands of the school environment on autistic students and support schools can put in place.
  • Social challenges faced at school by autistic students, and the ways they have overcome difficulties that school life presented.

This episode looks at school and education through the eyes of young people, Lauren and Aaron. They talk about the challenges for autistic young people in education and offer their suggestions for potential solutions. The podcast explains how a wider understanding of autism across the school system and implementation of adjustments for students can make a positive difference.
