New digital skills programme increases careers awareness

A new cyber skills programme for pupils in KS3 has been launched by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS). The new Cyber-Explorers platform will showcase the skills being taught in class though an immersive, gamified learning experience.

The initiative is being led by the National Cyber Security Centre and is aimed at ensuring more opportunity through education to develop digital skills and helping develop societal infrastructure. For many children and young people, both with and without SEND, the digital environment is one they may feel most comfortable in. Diverse ways of thinking are likely to be a particular asset for those in the cyber security field of employment. It could be particularly beneficial programme for some children and young people with SEND.

Billed as ’an epic learning adventure’ the programme boasts:

  • Multiple challenges and character career paths to explore.
  • Badges earned as students navigate through Cyber City.
  • An exciting ultimate challenge to put cyber skills to the test.
  • 10 - 15 min learning time per episode.
  • 100% Free. No ads. No subscription fees.
  • Developed by experts, kid-tested, parent-approved.

This would make a great addition to the KS3 curriculum or an excellent lunchtime or after-school club with long term real-world applications.
