A new initiative from BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT is helping teachers, school leaders and support staff develop the skills and confidence needed to use artificial intelligence effectively in education. The free AI Confidence programme offers a series of short online training modules designed specifically for education professionals.
The training covers practical applications of AI across a range of roles providing tailored guidance for educators, careers advisers, SEND specialists and leadership teams. Modules include
- Getting Started with AI in Education,
- Exploring AI in the World of Work,
- Supporting Inclusion with AI
- AI for School Leaders,
The programme was created in response to growing interest in AI across schools and colleges. While many educators believe AI will play an increasingly important role in education, confidence levels remain relatively low. The programme aims to bridge that gap through accessible, practical training that requires no prior AI experience.
Each module takes around 45 to 60 minutes to complete and includes real-world examples, practical tools and guidance on using AI safely and responsibly. Participants who complete a module receive a digital badge to recognise their achievement.
For schools considering how best to prepare staff and learners for an AI-enabled future, the programme offers a flexible professional development opportunity focused on efficiency, safety and responsible use of emerging technologies.
