Additional and Special Educational Needs one of the ten new Headteachers’ standards

Following a comprehensive review launched in July 2019 by the DfE, the review group, chaired by Malcolm Trobe CBE, former Acting General Secretary of ASCL, has recommended a new set of Headteachers’ standards to replace those published in 2015. Within the broader domain of Curriculum and Teaching the fifth standard explicitly relates to Additional and Special Educational Needs and builds on standard five of the Teachers’ Standards. As well as noting that the new standards mark a move away from the aspirational nature of their predecessor towards more specific benchmarks for excellence, the review group also highlights the role the new standards should play in informing all future leadership development training and frameworks.
