Letter of support for parents of children with SEND from Vicky Ford MP

Covid-19

With school attendance becoming mandatory again as from today, Vicky Ford MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Children and Families, released on Friday a letter for parents and carers of children and young people with SEND and the families that support them. Firstly, she thanks parents and carers for their ‘tremendous efforts’ during the latest national lockdown and goes on to thank those schools and specialist support services that have continued to provide for pupils.

The letter outlines the areas that will be of most interest to parents and carers of children with SEND as they move to returning to school, namely:

  • Attendance
  • Public Health Advice
  • Testing
  • Face coverings
  • Vaccinations
  • Education recovery
  • Therapies
  • Mental health and Wellbeing

As part of the support for mental health and wellbeing the letter draws attention to a guide, produced in conjunction with Whole School SEND and the Association of Education Psychologists, to support pupils return to school after a critical incident. The letter exemplifies all of the above areas and is available to read below.
