‘Let’s Play Fair’ campaign launched for accessible playgrounds

Every child has a right to play which is why Scope have launched a campaign in Child Safety Week (6th-12th June) calling on the government to invest in an inclusive playground fund. The ‘Let’s Play Fair’ campaign comes after research found that over half of the families faced accessibility issues with their local playground and 1 in 10 parents of disabled children said that their child had been hurt using inaccessible equipment.

Scope have created an open letter, which has so far accumulated over 11,000 signatures, requesting funding to ensure that playgrounds can be made more accessible and calling for:

  • accessible equipment
  • sensory opportunities
  • appropriate surfaces and fences

Current barriers limit choice and affect a disabled child’s right to play. As families with disabled children face rising costs of living, the need for free, inclusive playgrounds becomes more important than ever. These changes will make play fun, safe and open to all children.
