Engagement model – 2020/21 will be a transitionary year

The DfE has confirmed that, in the light of COVID-19, the Standards and Testing Agency has decided that the Engagement Model (for statutory assessment of pupils not engaged in subject-specific study at the end of key stages) will NOT be statutory from September 2020.

Instead, 2020/21 will be a transitionary year for the assessment of pupils working below the standard of national curriculum assessments. Schools who are ready to implement the model can do so, whereas schools who need more time to implement the change will continue to have the option to assess against P1-4 for one final year. The use of the engagement model will be statutory from September 2021.
